Why don’t Asians date Asians?
by andrew on Jul.31, 2003, under Being British-Chinese, Dating, Me me me me me, Television
Just caught a trail for Big Brother US, which is showing on E4. The theme of the house is basically people and their ex’s - and they featured one Korean-American contestant, Jun who said that she wouldn’t date Asians any more because they had too many pre-conceived ideas of what Asian women should say and/or do.
Which is a tad strange because, erm…
a) I’m a British-Chinese male, and I certainly wouldn’t want a woman who cooked, cleaned etc. - apart from anything else, I like cooking!
b) Of the white guys I know and lived with who lusted after Asian women like my sisters, I’d imagine a fair proportion of the “fantasy” was the whole love-slave thing. Which most men probably have about women generally, of course.
Personally, I’ll date anyone I like - regardless of race. If I’m lucky ever to date anyone again!
Banzai sparks Asian-American protests

BBC NEWS | Banzai sparks US protests
I have to say, as a british-Chinese person who’s seen Banzai in its’ UK format for ages without hearing a peep from anyone Oriental-Asian over here, I do have to wonder what they’re talking about.
Yes, it parodies Japanese TV. But Japanese TV is there to be parodied - much like French TV can be parodied, American TV can be parodied, German TV can be parodied. And it’s bloody funny.
The parodies IMHO are totally justifiable, as opposed to say Charlie Chan which is just silly.
What’s the beef, guys?
An Asian-American group has protested over the Channel 4 comedy programme Banzai, following its first showing in the United States on Sunday.
More proof of Pure 24’s Tamsin’s inaneness

Kate Adie: (paraphrasing) “And of course, the US arrested journalists at the beginning of the Iraq war”
Tamsin: (in a tone of voice that implies that Kate Adie is totally mad) “ok…. I didn’t know that… and …” (changes topic entirely)
Any sensible presenter would want to find out more of what Adie’s talking about - if only to give her enough room to hang herself, in theory.
Are they mad ?! Father Ted, US…

MediaGuardian.co.uk | Father Ted crosses the Pond
The Yanks are planning a US version of Father Ted. Full marks for bravery ‘cos if there’s one thing that doesn’t transport over the water, it’s whimsy and lunacy. Unless you’re Dubya.
But I can’t help thinking it’s going to sully otherwise fantastic memories of a hilarious programme. Just leave it alone and broadcast the original version!
