When did Madonna become the Rolling Stones ?!

Madonna’s starting her European tour in Cardiff – just outside my front door, in fact. Except she’s charging a whopping £70 for a ticket!!!

Now I realise I’m perilously close to being part of the aging fifty-quid-man demographic who would ordinarily think nothing of spending £50 on a bunch of CDs on a Saturday afternoon (although it was in fact Anni who did this), but paying Rolling-Stones-esque ticket prices for Madonna is insane. Especially since the Rolling Stones are a bunch of aging rockers who haven’t had a hit in this decade, and Madonna is back on form.

Even the Pet Shop Boys – who have been going for as long as Madonna, and are equally iconic on a European stage – aren’t charging that much. Their gigs are around £30, and involve an equally-insane number of dancers, smoke machines and other pyrotechnics. Indeed, it’s arguably more involving since it involves architecturally-designed sets.

So what has Madonna got to offer that’s worth £70 for two hours of entertainment? More gyrating hotpants?

  • Maybe she'll kiss Charlotte this time =P

  • Skarlett

Firstly-the boys will pay that to see her
and its become a 'why not charge the most of what people will pay' concert world lately.

U2 also had outragous ticket prices for the last tour, and I had resolved not to go-the first tour I would not have seen since about 83.
In the end I was guested, and would have been just fine not going at all if that had not been the case.
The tickets cost at least 3 times as much as PopMart, and the show was barely half the show-

  • When I first moved back to the UK I won a pair of tickets to a Madonna show but alas I knew no-one in London, didn't want to go alone so tried to give them away at the entrance to a tube station (Ealing). You won't believe how difficult it was! Everyone thought it was a scam of some kind until at last two tourists arrived, thanked me profusely and (I hope) went on to enjoy the concert.

  • That makes me sound like a right billy no-mates doesn't it? I'd only been in London a week, I swear I made a group of friends soon after that 😉
