Profoundly in love with Pandora…

I just tried pandora.com – which claims to build you a personalised radio station based on your musical tastes.

Just like last.fm in fact. but it has a cool du-jour Flash interface, and accurately (to me at least) describes the Pet Shop Boys music as having “electronica influences, a subtle use of vocal harmony, mild rhythmic syncopation, repetitive melodic phrasing and a vocal-centric aesthetic”. So there.

Goldfrapp get described as having: “electronica influences, a subtle use of vocal harmony, mild rhythmic syncopoation, extensive vamping (my emphasis – there’s my next weblog title!) and major key tonality.”

Garbage: “pop metal qualities, a subtle use of vocal harmony, electric guitar wall-o-sound, mild rhythmic syncopation and extensive vamping (there it is again!)

They say writing about music is like dancing about architecture, but it’s amazing to see my random music tastes described in words that actually make sense to me, a non-NME reviewer.

One thing worries me about Pandora – try as I might, it seems to remember my settings perfectly. I’ve gone through my cookies, rebooted my computer, but it’s sticking to me and finding me like glue instead of declaring me as a new listener to artist X…

Update: you can “keep” the MP3s that Pandora downloads to your hard drive
