The trouble with BBC News’s superlative On This Day feature is that sometimes, you just gotta know what happened next. And it won’t tell you.
In 1978, the Pollyanna’s nightclub in Birmingham was ordered to lift a race ban after it was found to be barring black and Chinese parties. But the nightclub owner was defiant, saying “I think we have to limit all sorts of people and coloured people fit into that category”. This was only in 1978.
So what happened next? Did the nightclub owner stick to his guns? Did the CRE prosecute him? What happened? I’ve gotta know!
Can’t see any current web reference to a Pollyanna’s nightclub in Birmingham, though…
