It was the Guardian wot lost it

Those of us with slightly long memories may remeber the Guardian’s Operation Clark County – basically, a letter-writing campaign inaugirated by the Guardian to enable readers to write to undecided voters in Clark County, Ohio (apparently a crucial swing county in a swing state) to say who said undecided voter should vote for, or to take account of international opinion.

Of course, it backfired somewhat with lots of angry letters, and the Guardian hurriedly closed down the campaign early.

Now the results from Clark County are in. In 2000, Gore won it by 324 votes – and in 2004, Bush won by 1620 votes. Damn meddling Brits.

(And for the record, I never wrote off for an address.)
