Having fun at work

I’ve worked within new media companies for just over a decade, and no office I’ve been in has come close to having as much fun as the staff at Connected Ventures, according to this new video which has apparently sparked yet another entry to the trendy urban lexicon, lip dub.

Maybe it’s because UK new media is just too dour to do things as silly. Maybe it’s because all the new media companies I’ve worked for were based in either way-too-posh rented offices, or just run-of-the-mill offices. Maybe I’m just too old for the onset of true citizen-generated video content. Maybe it’s just me.

Stick with the clip, it does become one of the silliest, joyful and yet easy-to-do videos I’ve seen. Then again, I’m a huge fan of miming. Even has shades of Morecambe & Wise in it.

There’s another track I need to add to my iTunes…

  • I have to say, from a web marketing point of view it's a big miss. OK, so it's going viral now, loads are watching it, etc. However, there's no apparent links on the video and no way to really do anything with it other than say 'look at us' which is nice and all web 2.0, but doesn't pay any bills. The web 2.0 bubble will pop soon. 😀

    Good track though.

  • Oh I dunno – the people behind the video work at Vimeo… and the embedded video alone seems slicker and better-designed than the YouTube equivalent. Plus, Vimeo the site itself seems better than YouTube.

So it might get them a few thousand more users – nowhere near enough to topple YouTube though.

Thought the web2.0 bubble had already popped though 😉

  • Nah – it's got a long way to go before it bursts, but there does seem to be a lot of VCs putting money into 2.0 projects that don't have any real revenue models behind them.

  • OK, the girl who starts it off is cute. And the one stood next to her at the end is well hot. And it's a good song. But I'm not emailing you it as it deserves better than to be played on an ipod *spit*
